No adverts?

After the news of some UK dealers merging, I checked RadCom and PW for dealer adverts.  MLS have many pages whereas Nevada had none in RadCom. Also, Waters and Stanton had none in RadCom.

They all had ads in PW. Moonraker was advertising in RadCom. I presume the costs are lower in PW?

Which dealers will be around in 2030?

Caveat Emptor.  Buyer beware!

Ads I hate - NOT amateur radio

There are some adverts in particular that I just hate! Those that say something like, "taking the UK by storm" or "seniors are missing out". These are obviously designed to draw us in. Sorry, here these are just deleted, unread.

Adverts I hate - NOT amateur radio

Not sure if this a recent thing, but I am seeing more and more ads that say something like, "UK seniors over 50 are rushing to get this new....".

They are written in such a way that your interest is raised, so you are tempted to take a look. Whenever I see this I do not look. Although most are probably virus free, they are clickbate. Personally I hate these.

Adverts I HATE - NOT amateur radio

If there is one sort of advert I absolutely hate it is one like this designed to whet our curiosity with words like:

"Seniors born before 1969 are snapping up this new benefit"

In my view this is click bate. Without clicking, we feel we might just be missing out, so many will click.

Comments by "loan" - NOT amateur radio

It doesn't happen very often and as soon as I spot them, they get permanently deleted, but if you see a comment by "loan" let me know and then ignore it. These are irrelevant, off topic adverts. I hate them. Just go away.

Unless the comment has relevance to the post it will get deleted at the first opportunity. Such blatant ads have no place here.

Ads I hate - NOT amateur radio

One sort of ad I really hate is one that says "Brits must read this"  or similar. In my view, this is like click bate. One is encouraged to read and clearly the ad is, well, an ad. I presume this is a new way to get our attention. In future such ads will be avoided.

Malicious Adverts - NOT amateur radio

OK, grumpy old man time again!

Have you noticed how many ads say things like, "seniors in XYZ are astounded by SUCH AND SUCH hearing aids" or "never pay for TV ever again" or "do you know that SUCH AND SUCH bank has put aside £40B for PPI claims".

This sort of pernicious advert makes me wild. I don't know about you, but I think they all should be banned. They are meant to convince you that you are in a stupid minority. In actual fact it is just another marketing angle. Ignore them all!

Rant over. I feel better now! 😏

Ads from the past

AmateurRadio.com has an interesting post with old ads from 73 magazine back in the 1960s. As the post says, we have come a long way.
