Openreach - NOT amateur radio

If you live in the UK and get broadband you probably get your service via BT's Openreach which provides the fibre and wire backbone. We get our broadband via Virgin Media with speeds up to 100M. We rarely get downtime and, overall,  they provide a good service. In rural areas where no cable is available, broadband speeds can be very poor.

Today, BT agreed to make Openreach a separate legal entity, so the hope is the broadband services will improve for many. Openreach is still part of BT but legally separate. I'm not quite sure how this works.

Broadband - NOT amateur radio

73.72Mbps download speed tested over wifi by Ookla on the cheapest Virgin Media package. Can't complain.

Broadband - NOT amateur radio

Just had a free upgrade on broadband from Virgin Media on their cheapest package. I am pleased. It was even faster when I tried it earlier - and this is over a wi-fi connection for the last bit. The TV internet connection is separate and not included, so this is the speed on a laptop in the lounge. It is more than enough for us.

Virgin Media broadband - NOT amateur radio

Today I got an email from Virgin Media saying that this autumn they will be doubling their broadband speed. It is already pretty good but twice as fast will be amazing. I think this is a general email to prevent us moving to BT Infinity or Sky.

Generally Virgin Media TV, broadband and phones are very reliable, although there have been a few times when the service has been down.
