Friedrichshafen - mid June

This is the biggest gathering in Europe for radio amateurs. It attracts amateurs from a wide range of countries. I still keep hoping Yaesu will announce a new QRP SDR radio to replace the FT817. I suspect they will not, alas. In my view they have "missed the boat"....yet again. Personally, I fear Yaesu will leave the amateur radio market shortly. They could well be joined by others.

 "Times, they are a changing".

This is the biggest amateur gathering in Europe and runs from June 24-26th.

Friedrichshafen (Germany) cancelled

The big Friedrichshafen rally, due soon, is cancelled in case you did not know. Look out for virtual events instead. I hope it returns next year as it is an important gathering for many.

Friedrichshafen 2021 - off

Although I have looked quite hard, I have failed to find out if this years grand show in June is definitely cancelled.

2022 is on and I would be extremely surprised if this years show was on, especially with rising Covid-19 cases across Europe. Putting on a show would be expensive and it is unlikely many would want to be there in big crowds with the pandemic, even if they could travel.

The last definitive information I saw was that Dayton, USA was cancelled and Friedrichshafen 2021 was to be decided still. However, Southgate News is reporting that it is cancelled this year.

See http://www.southgatearc.org/news/2021/march/ham-radio-exhibition-once-again-suspended.htm#.YGBoEyvYrrc .

It is definitely not happening in 2021. I have found the official announcement of this. A pity, but understandable.

Notice the word "suspended" . There is an online event June 25th - 27th 2021.

2021 Friedrichshafen in June ON but Dayton cancelled, UK Hamfest - maybe

Southgate News reports that plans for an in-person Friedrichshafen in June are still going ahead. I do hope so. I think there is an online event too. This is one of the biggest amateur radio gatherings in the world.

See http://www.southgatearc.org/news/2021/march/friedrichshafen-june-25-27.htm#.YFDDJiuTLrc

On a sadder note, the ARRL reports that the Dayton Hamvention is being cancelled for the second year. In the USA there is a great danger of a new spike in Covid-19 infections, so this is probably sensible.

The UK organisers of the National Hamfest is making a final decision in June.

Friedrichshafen

One of the biggest events in the European amateur calendar is the Friedrichshafen exhibition in Germany. A few weeks ago I was told this had been cancelled. This is unsurprising in the current lockdowns and restrictions caused by Covid-19.

As mentioned before, this is a showcase event, much like the Dayton Hamvention. It is a big event and attracts visitors from all over Europe.

Like Dayton, it is often the place where the big manufacturers show their new products. I guess they will miss this.

Friedrichshafen - still on (for now)

At the moment, organisers are still working and planning on the assumption that this big event is still taking place in June. They hope to re-assess things in a few weeks' time. If I was a betting man (I am not) I should assume this will be either cancelled or postponed.

Friedrichshafen

This is the biggest European amateur "show". I have never been and never likely to go. No new products were announced to my knowledge. I may be wrong.

Friedrichshafen - June 21-23 in Germany

This is the biggest European amateur radio exhibition. It is just possible some new products may be announced, although I think this is unlikely. There were a very few new products announced at Dayton, Ohio.

Old age?

Southgate News reports that attendance at Friedrichshafen was down on last year. Could this be because the amateur population is now mainly old men who find travel harder? If numbers are down next year too, it would not surprise me.

26 May 2018

Friedrichshafen, Germany

This big European rally is fast approaching. Outside of the USA, I think this is the biggest amateur radio showcase in the world. Dates are June 1st-3rd 2018. Like Dayton, this is a chance for the big players to showcase new radios.

18 Mar 2018

Friedrichshafen - June 2018

Although I have never been, this "rally" in Germany is probably the biggest in Europe.  It is often the place where new products are introduced to Europe for the first time. I expect Yaesu will have the underwhelming FT818 there. WiMo will not be there sadly. Perhaps ICOM will announce a new product? The other "big one" is in the USA at Dayton, Ohio. Again, I have never been.
