Metal plate photo - NOT amateur radio

When clearing my mum’s home after she died some years ago, we came across this hand tinted metal plate that I had never seen before. It probably dates from the 1800s and may show one of my ancestors.

Very old photo 1838 - NOT amateur radio

Sorry, but I do not know where this copy of an 1838 photo comes from. It is one of the earliest photos ever made.

Imagine if we had had photos 200 years earlier!

This appeared as a Facebook memory earlier. If true, it is remarkable.

First ever photograph of a person - NOT amateur radio

Photo from Wikipedia Commons
Recently I posted a photo of a man reported to be born in 1746.

The first ever photo to capture a person is supposed to be a Daguerreotype taken in 1838. This is a street scene and shows a person having his shoes cleaned. This person had no idea he was making history that day! The photo was taken out of a window in Paris. The image here does not do it justice. The man having his shoes cleaned is in the bottom left.

Photography was invented (I believe) in the 1820s. Just imagine if we had had photography centuries earlier. Samuel Pepys would have been busy!

VERY old photo - NOT amateur radio

This photo first appeared on my blog in 2010. It shows a man who is supposed to have been been born in 1746!

If correct, this must be one of the earliest photos of a human being ever. This is well before the French Revolution, when the USA colonies were still "owned"  by Great Britain and more than a century before the American Civil War.

I have no idea where this first appeared. As I recall, the first photos were taken in the late 1830s or early 1840s.

World's oldest photographs

As I have come down with a bug of some sort, feeling light-headed and with a headache, I've been sleeping a lot today and not doing too much. My 472kHz WSPR has been running periodically.

Sitting here this afternoon, I chanced on this interesting YouTube video showing the world's earliest photos. Fascinating to look at - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LkaFCa29mQ .

Photo of a man born in 1746

Looking through my old photos I found this today. This appeared in a newspaper some years ago and it shows a man who was 102yrs old when the photo was taken in 1848. This means he was born in 1746, 10 years before Mozart was born and was a middle aged man when the Bastille was stormed in Paris. The calotype photo was taken by William Collie who I believe was a photographer on Jersey in the Channel Islands. See also http://www.all-art.org/history658_photography5-2.html
